AMBER ALERT
ACTION PLAN

On July 18, the Nevada AMBER Alert "team" participating in the first two days of the National AMBER Alert Conference in Albuquerque, established the 2006 Fall Action Plan.  The plan outlines the priorities and goals that the Nevada AMBER Alert Review Committee will address in the coming weeks and months.

Team members in Albuquerque included:  Bob Fisher, State AMBER Alert Coordinator;  Rene Hulse, Office of the Attorney General;  Sergeant Tom Wagner and Lieutenant Steven Cabrales, Law Enforcement; Adrienne Abbott, Broadcasting; and Robert Chisel, Transportation.

Everyone returned to Nevada the evening of July 18, with the exception of Bob and Lt. Cabrales. The two of them then represented Nevada as the National Conference continued with two days of discussions on AMBER Alert and Indian Country; and concluded on July 21 with an entire day devoted to discussing AMBER Alert and Border Issues (Canada and Mexico).  In response to the entire week of deliberations, two additional items were added to the Action Plan.

The 2006 Nevada Fall Action Plan includes:

1.  Review composition of the committee.  Determine whose terms expire in 2007, and whose terms expire in 2008.  There is one current vacancy on the committee.

2.  Move forward on developing legislation to amend current state law to make filing a false AMBER Alert activation a felony.

3.  Move forward to develop a new statewide training program, set training dates and locations; and develop and produce a series of training videos for specific disciplines (law enforcement, broadcasters, call takers and transportation.)  Goal is to provide training that is Post Certified.

4.  Move forward on developing and producing a public awareness campaign.

5.  Work with the Department of Transportation to integrate the new 511 communication system into the Nevada State AMBER Alert Plan.

6.  Work with law enforcement and Nevada Child Seekers to develop "recommendations" -- outlining a list of reunification resources that are available.

7.  Develop a list of our Secondary Partners.

8.  Establish a sub-committee to begin reaching out to each of the sovereign tribes.

9.  Establish a sub-committee to determine contacts and resources necessary to have a successful AMBER Alert recovery in Mexico.

10.  Encourage participation in Fox Valley training programs, such as CART and Newsplex.

11.  Explore developing a Western States Regional Team Meeting.

12. Begin comprehensive review / update of the Nevada State AMBER Alert Plan.
